Humidity, coastal storms, and shifting soil conditions all make life difficult for Florida homeowners, especially when it comes to the condition of their homes—and more specifically, the drywall in the home. With this in mind, here are a few of the common drywall repair needs that our team at Home Pride Painting can assist with.
- Water Damage Repair: Water damage is one of the most common drywall issues in our area. Heavy rain, roof leaks, plumbing issues, and excessive indoor humidity can all cause drywall to discolor, bubble, or soften. Common signs that drywall repair is needed include stained ceilings, flaking paint, drooping regions, or a musty odor.
- Hurricanes and Storm Impact Damage: The hurricane season in Florida can cause interior drywall damage even if the external construction is undamaged. Strong winds and pressure changes can cause stress cracks around doors and windows, while flying debris can result in impact holes. When this happens, drywall repair can vary from patching minor cracks to replacing complete panels in more serious cases.
- Nail Pops and Settlement Cracks: Homes in our area tend to shift slightly over time due to the sandy soil and variable moisture levels. This movement can cause nail pops, which are little circular bumps in the wall, as well as hairline cracks along seams. While superficial, these issues should be addressed to prevent future cracking. Repairs usually include resetting fasteners, adding joint compound, sanding smooth, and repainting.
- Mold-Related Drywall Replacement: High humidity makes homes in our area more mold-prone, particularly in bathrooms, kitchens, and garages. When drywall becomes mold-infested, cleaning is frequently insufficient. Instead, affected portions will need to be removed and replaced.
